About INFRAACT

INFRAACT is Bulgaria’s national research infrastructure for advanced cell technologies in biomedicine. It connects complementary scientific platforms, experienced teams and European collaboration routes to support research from an initial biological question towards robust evidence and biomedical application.

RESEARCH INFRASTRUCTURE “CELL TECHNOLOGIES IN BIOMEDICINE”

A connected national infrastructure

INFRAACT is a distributed infrastructure bringing together expertise from Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski, institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, genomic facilities and clinical or private partners.

Rather than operating as a collection of separate instruments, INFRAACT connects cell models, multi-omics, imaging and phenotyping, bioinformatics and data expertise within integrated experimental workflows.

This model allows researchers, clinicians and innovators to approach the infrastructure with a translational question and be connected to the combination of capabilities their project requires.

NATIONAL RESEARCH CAPACITY

Part of Bulgaria’s National Roadmap for Research Infrastructures

INFRAACT is part of the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructures of the Republic of Bulgaria for 2020–2027. The infrastructure is coordinated by Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski and supported by the Ministry of Education and Science.

The Roadmap framework supports the development of sustainable research capacity, shared expertise and access to advanced technologies of strategic importance for Bulgarian science and innovation.

How INFRAACT works

Distributed

Scientific platforms and specialist teams remain embedded within their institutions while contributing to a coordinated national infrastructure.

Connected

Projects can combine biological models, analytical methods and data expertise across partners instead of navigating each capability separately.

Translational

Experimental planning is guided by the evidence required for the next decision, validation step, partnership or biomedical application.

SCIENTIFIC AND ORGANISATIONAL LEADERSHIP

National coordination

INFRAACT is coordinated by Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski. Prof. Rossitza Konakchieva, INFRAACT Project Manager and National Director of EATRIS Bulgaria, provides scientific and organisational leadership across the infrastructure’s national and European activities.

Coordination supports shared strategic priorities, collaboration across institutions, visibility of national capabilities and connection with relevant European opportunities.

A multidisciplinary consortium

The INFRAACT consortium brings together complementary expertise from universities, research institutes, genomic facilities and clinical or private partners. This breadth enables projects to access relevant expertise at different points of the translational pathway.
